Del-Mar-Va Chapter National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA)

Scholarship Guidelines

 

1. Eligibility-Students may apply who are NDTA members or dependents (note: dependent as defined by the US IRS code -- son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter, legal guardian, etc...) of NDTA members. Also, students who are not currently NDTA members may apply now to become eligible for the scholarship (simply enclose a copy of a completed NDTA application form with the scholarship package-an NDTA application form is attached or available on the website www.delmarvandta.org). A member number will have to be provided before money will be transferred to the student's institution. It takes an average of 3-4 weeks to receive a member number after submitting an NDTA application.

2. NDTA offers two types of scholarships to members and dependents of members:

a. Merit Scholarship Program A: Tuition assistance to college students enrolled in an business, logistics or transportation related undergraduate degree program.
b. Merit Scholarship Program B: Tuition assistance to high school students planning to attend college in a business, logistics or transportation related field. Applicants must indicate that they plan to enroll in an undergraduate degree program.

3. NDTA scholarship funds are forwarded to the institution where an applicant is enrolled. Before funds are transferred, the successful applicant must submit documentation showing that he/she has in fact been accepted or is a current full time student in good standing with the institution. Additionally, proof must be shown the applicant is either an NDTA member or the dependent of an NDTA member.

4. The Del-Mar-Va Chapter plans to give approximately 2 scholarships with a combined worth of approximately $1,000 on 30 June 2006

5. Requirements:

a. Merit Scholarship Program A - At the time of filing his/her application, the student must have satisfactorily completed 24 semester hours (or quarter hour equivalent) of work at regionally accredited colleges or universities.


b Merit Scholarship Program B - At the time of filing his/her application, the student must have satisfactorily completed 3.5 years of academic work at an accredited high school.

6. Application Procedures- Blank NDTA and/or scholarship application forms and guidelines can be obtained from any Del-Mar-Va officer or member on the scholarship committee or at www.delmarvandta.org.

7. The application package should contain all appropriate documents and the form(s) should be neatly written or typed. Packages missing items or illegible will not be considered. Complete application must include:

a. The application
b. Forwarded transcripts with current GPA
c. A 300-500-word statement/essay stating on one of the following:
    1. Why you are the best candidate for the scholarship
    2. Career Goals
    3. The Importance of transportation and logistics
d. Resume-include work experience, education, extra-curricular activities and honors/awards.

8. Completed applications must be submitted to the official Del-Mar-Va NDTA Chapter PO Box. A sealed envelope containing the entire scholarship application must be mailed to Del-Mar-Va NDTA Scholarship, PO Box 02060, Dover, DE 19902. The envelope must be postmarked on or before June 15, 2007. Awards will be effective with the fall term or a semester of that year.

9. The Del-Mar-Va NDTA Scholarship Committee will select the scholarship recipient(s) based upon the merit of each applicant.
